Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Fast-paced, high-acuity labor and delivery unit with over 300 births per month.
- Double labor assignments are common daily.
- Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, including under 16 weeks high-risk patients.
- Procedures include scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage.
- Unit averages 20 births in 24 hours, 30-40 admits, 40 visits per day, and 20 rooms.
- Float required as needed on a special maternity care high-risk OB unit.
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend, minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts, 06:45 - 19:15.
- Call requirement: None.
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and may lead to cancellation.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification
Orientation & Training
- Unit orientation: 24 hours.
- Scrubs provided (blue).
Systems Used
- PYXIS medication system
- EPIC electronic health record
- SBAR communication framework
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, and education verification for highest degree earned.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if needed; declinations not accepted)
- Hepatitis B titer or facility-specific declination form if negative/equivocal
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol.
- Required facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, education modules, medication safety training, and hospital policies acknowledgment.
- Competency exams as applicable, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must pass with 82% or higher).
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel and acute care positions.
Additional Notes
- The unit is described as difficult and very fast-paced; 48-hour contracts are not recommended.
- Strong preference for RNs with OR circulate experience.
- Float coverage may be required.
- Weekend work is mandatory as specified.
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions are strict; no RTO after booking allowed.
