Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ER)
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Available to work every other holiday, if needed
Locals: Registered Nurses within 75 miles are not accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- IV therapy skills including blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs
- Experience with IV vasopressors
- Proficiency in CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator management
- Knowledge and experience in care of stroke (CVA), neuro-trauma, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and pediatric spinal cord injury
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Unit Details
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients (adults and geriatrics)
- Patient population: All emergency-type diagnoses
- Special equipment used: Bair hugger, rapid infuser, safe patient handling equipment
- Floating: Required to float within skillset
- Uniform: Navy blue and white scrub colors
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start (including felony checks, SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
- Foreign education equivalency evaluation required if applicable
- Education verification from primary source required (hard copies not accepted)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (with age exemptions where applicable)
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Certifications and Competencies
- ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM as required by unit
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual update required)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
- Color blindness testing (one-time)
- Competency exams as required by specialty
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
Additional Requirements
- References: 2 references within 3 years (required for certain candidates)
- Employment application and work history verification required
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
- Facility-specific onboarding modules and attestations to be completed prior to start
- Parking pass form required for orientation
Notes
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Call-off policy allows client to cancel up to three shifts during the contract without penalty
- Scheduling requests must be submitted at time of application
- Floating within skillset expected
