Job Description
- Perform chemotherapy, therapeutic treatments, blood transfusions, and phlebotomy procedures.
- Provide and coordinate care for patients and families in an ambulatory care setting by assessing, diagnosing, planning, and intervening in actual or potential health problems.
- Educate patients, families, and significant others on health maintenance strategies and treatments.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to plan patient care and achieve goals.
- Manage unit operations including patient flow, assignments, ordering, and medical record preparation.
- Triage sick and walk-in patients.
- Handle telephone communication, triage, and communicate test results in collaboration with providers, including follow-up.
- Assist with procedures and administer medications via oral, IM, IV, SQ, and inhaled routes.
- Administer blood and blood products specific to oncology specialty.
- Perform treatments such as chemotherapy administration and conscious sedation.
- Access and maintain central lines/ports for blood drawing and medication administration.
- Provide respiratory interventions as needed.
- Coordinate and delegate patient care activities.
- Initiate CPR when necessary.
- Coordinate inpatient admissions and ER referrals.
- Identify learning needs of patients and families, ensuring comprehension.
- Provide information about treatments, tests, preps, and OR procedures.
- Instruct patients on home and self-care.
- Evaluate client outcomes through return demonstration or verbalization of understanding.
- Maintain a patient care environment that supports patient needs and facilitates flow.
- Promote patient safety in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Practice and monitor infection control, maintaining a clean, quiet, and organized environment.
- Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and respect in interactions with patients and families.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
