Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start (required for all Med/Surg nurses regardless of sub-specialty).
• Required experience in Cardiac Telemetry and Nephrology Med/Surg.
• Weekend work required every other weekend or two weekends per month.
• Patient ratio approximately 1:7-8; float pool duties required.
• No holiday time off allowed during specified holidays; holiday time off requests may be addressed onsite after assignment start.

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - must be current and uploaded as actual certificate (no photos/screenshots).
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required (actual downloaded certificate, no photos/screenshots).
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not mandatory.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in the specialty (Med/Surg with Cardiac Tele and Nephrology experience).
• Prior travel experience is required.

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required).
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 12 months prior to start, minimum score 80%.
• Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) with minimum 80% pass rate, updated annually.
• Color Blind Testing within 12 months prior to start (100% score required).

Background and Documentation Requirements

• Background check completed within 45 days of start, including 7-year SSN trace, alias verification, sex offender registries, criminal searches, and abuse registries.
• Valid driver’s license or state ID (color copy, current).
• Employment application with 7-year work history, no unexplained gaps over 30 days, and active nursing license details.
• Two supervisory references from employers within the last 3 years.
• Unit-specific skills checklist updated within the last year.
• Photo for badge: passport-style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings.
• Onboarding attestation and review of facility-specific onboarding documents required.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA confirming fitness for duty.
• Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; T-spots not accepted. If prior positive, clear chest x-ray within 10 years plus questionnaire required.
• TB questionnaire completed.
• Immunizations or titers required for:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer.
  • Hepatitis B – vaccine series, titer, or declination.
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer.
• Seasonal flu vaccine required for assignments starting 9/8/2025 and later; exemptions only for approved medical or religious reasons with proper documentation.
• Drug screening within 45 days of start, including a comprehensive panel with MRO signature.

Additional Notes

• Utility bill or lease/mortgage statement required to verify address at least 75 miles from contracted facility.
• Travelers requesting time off during holidays will not be accommodated unless approved onsite after arrival.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg RNs with Cardiac Telemetry and Nephrology experience who are comfortable with travel assignments and working in a fast-paced hospital environment with a 1:7-8 patient ratio.
