Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location

  • Charleston, South Carolina

Position Details

  • Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Possible floating only to main hospital adult population within same policies and equipment; no floating to sister facilities
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Patient Population & Unit Highlights

  • Facility is a Magnet-designated, teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation
  • Unit: Adult critical care at a 200-bed tower including:
    • Cardiovascular ICU (21 beds) with postop cardiac, thoracic, complex vascular surgery patients, heart & lung transplant, durable LVAD, ECMO, IABP, Impella, complex cardiology cases
    • Medical-Surgical ICU (18 beds) with ARDS, septic shock, hematologic & oncologic emergencies, GI hemorrhage, pulmonary hypertension, perforated viscous
  • Charting system: Epic

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with adult patients
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks including 7 years of residence/employment history, criminal, sex offender, national, and state-specific searches
  • Employment verification of last 3 clinical employers
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Primary source verification of all licenses and certifications
  • Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test: N95 mask fit test within 90 days of start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccination series, or declination required
    • Annual flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
  • TB testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days; annual TB questionnaire required
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Competency exams as applicable

Orientation & Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of online orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
  • Submission of a clear, passport-style badge photo by Wednesday prior to start
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into facility system
  • All requested documents and time-off requests must be submitted and approved prior to assignment start
  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Additional Notes

  • No radiation badge required for this position
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require participation in emergency response teams; candidates should consider this before accepting or extending assignments
  • Parking available with a one-time $20 pass; nights and weekends parking fees apply
