Registered Nurse (NICU) - Nebraska, Lincoln

Job Overview

Position: Registered Nurse (NICU)
Location: Lincoln, Nebraska
Unit: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Level III high-risk facility
Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM), every other weekend, with occasional extra shifts (2 extra shifts required every 6 weeks)
Schedule: Approximately 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Environment: NICU nurses may float to Mother-Baby or Labor & Delivery units to care for newborns and well babies; floating to other areas is rare but possible
Dress Code: Navy scrubs

Required Qualifications

Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license
Experience: Minimum 3 years of NICU nursing experience
Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Skills: Experience with ventilators and central lines; strong communication, critical thinking, multitasking, and ability to work independently
Exam: Pass a 90% or higher on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation (resources provided)

Additional Requirements and Policies

Radius Rule: Must live within 50 miles of the facility; candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated facilities within the health system
Driver’s license required at time of application to verify distance compliance
Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
Follow AWHONN/NANN guidelines for patient care levels (continuous, intermediate, intensive, multi-system support)
