Registered Nurse – CVICU (Travel/Contract)

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work in a 20-bed Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) providing care to high acuity cardiovascular patients, including stable heart and lung transplants, ventricular assist devices, and ECMO patients.
• Fast-paced specialty intensive care unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2-3 during days and nights.
• 36 or 48-hour shift options available; current shift is Day (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM).
• Frequent floating required within scope to meet hospital staffing needs, including potential float to other campuses and various units (e.g., Neuro, Trauma, Observation).
• Drip management required on all floors.
• EPIC electronic charting experience required.
• Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and sometimes LPNs.

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse license valid for Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start; otherwise, booking delayed 6 weeks).
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting.
• First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification preferred.
• Experience with drips and critical care nursing.
• EPIC charting proficiency required.

Work Schedule & Requirements

• Weekend shifts: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (Days: Saturday and Sunday; Nights: Friday and Saturday nights).
• Holiday work requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
• Return to Office (RTO) blackout dates: June 11–22, 2026 (due to College World Series).
• Up to two weeks of RTO permitted; requests must be submitted with application and approved by manager.
• Local candidates not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility).

• Parking available via permit (~$55/month) or daily rate (~$3 for 20 hours).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required.
• Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county, statewide, nationwide, sex offender, federal, and education verifications.
• SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter.
• State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required.
• Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required prior to start.
• Education verification required.
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.
• Annual skills checklist required.
• Two professional references from work within the past 2 years required.

Certifications & Health Requirements

• BLS required; ACLS preferred (AHA standards).
• PALS and NRP certifications required as applicable per unit description.
• NIH Stroke Certification required as applicable.
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.
• Color blindness testing required.
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually.
• Fit mask test (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+) required within 1 year and updated annually.
• Immunizations/vaccinations required:

  • Tdap within last 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with TB questionnaire annually
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if low/equivocal titers)
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal titers)
• Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually (urine panel including multiple substances).
• Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required.
• COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemption or declination accepted.
• Eye exam required within 30 days of start only if working in the OR (not applicable here).
