Surgery Tech Position

Location: Billings, Montana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 12 hours per day (36 hours per week)
Employment Type: Clinical, Non-Nursing

Job Summary

• Perform various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure safe and successful operative procedures.
• Function under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and report to Surgical Services management.
• Support surgical operations initiatives and actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan.
• Maintain sterile field and ensure environmental safety in the operating room.
• Prepare the operating room and instruments for surgical procedures.
• Assist surgeons during procedures within the scope of practice.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
• Assist with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for subsequent procedures.
• May assist with sterile processing and specimen handling.
• May float to other departments within scope of competency.
• May be required to be on-call during scheduled shifts.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED, or graduation from a surgical technology program completed within the last six months
  OR
• Two (2) years of scrub tech experience in hospital or military surgical services within the last three years
• One (1) year of CVOR Technologist experience within the last year
• Surgical Technician experience

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accountability for sterilization criteria of operating room and surgical items
• Maintain sterile field and safe environment during procedures
• Assist in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients
• Assemble, organize, and complete case carts according to surgeon preferences
• Provide appropriate instrumentation, sutures, and supplies as requested
• Count sponges, needles, blades, and instruments using proper technique
• Handle specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments, contaminated materials, and sharps according to policy
• Assist with timely room turnover, cleaning, restocking, and equipment care
• Promote organizational mission, vision, and values, and abide by service behavior standards
• Perform other duties as assigned

Work Environment

• Night shift, 12-hour shifts
• May require on-call availability
• May float to other departments as needed within qualifications

This position is ideal for surgical technologists with solid scrub experience, strong knowledge of sterile techniques, and the ability to work independently and as part of a surgical team in a fast-paced environment.
