Job Description
- Position: Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Coordinator - RN
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- Call Requirements:
- Weeknight call: 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM (remote unless onsite required)
- Weekend call: Friday 5:00 PM through Monday 7:00 AM (remote unless onsite required)
- Pending DC RN license accepted at time of submission, but DC RN license must be obtained prior to start date.
Required Certifications and Licenses
- DC Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure (pending accepted, must have before start)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC certified
- Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) certification preferred within 1.5 years
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate monitoring of patients with ventricular assist devices during procedures and operations
- Collaborate with Materials Management, Equipment Technicians/Managers to maintain device inventory, tracking, and FDA recall response
- Manage VAD patient education in accordance with regulatory standards
- Serve as VAD Nurse Coordinator or VAD Engineer, proficient in VAD management and able to take VAD call and assist with procedures
Required Competencies and Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher)
- Color Blind Testing (online or in-person)
- Competency Exams relevant to MedSurg/Telemetry or specialty area (passing score required)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam for Telemetry, ICU, ED units (RN only)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year, updated annually)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) documentation or titers
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
- Varicella documentation or titer
- Drug screening within 90 days of start, updated annually (excludes marijuana)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Sept 2024 - March 2025)
- COVID-19 vaccination required (dose 1 and fully vaccinated status) with strict exemption policies
Background and Employment Verification
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Employment history verification with minimum 2 years experience in past 7 years (including at least 1 travel assignment for travel contracts)
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience in the last 3 years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license verification
Additional Information
- Valid driver's license required if driving is an essential job function
- Facility-specific onboarding modules and attestations required prior to start
- Annual HIPAA Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Compliance with MedStar Health policies and procedures
