National Speech-Language Pathologist Day May 18, 2026 recognizes you, the clinicians who help patients communicate, recover, and thrive across every stage of life. Whether you’re in schools, clinics, or acute care, this day is about the difference you make every single day.
Where SLP Day Comes From
SLP Day is rooted in Better Hearing and Speech Month, launched in 1927 by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association to raise awareness of communication disorders.
Over time, May 18 became a dedicated moment to celebrate the clinicians behind the progress highlighting the real impact of your work.
Quick SLP Facts for all the Non-SLP’s! (Because We Know It’s More Than Speech)
- SLPs treat more than speech: language, swallowing, and cognitive communication.
- They work across the lifespan from early intervention to geriatric care.
- Collaboration is core with interdisciplinary teams and families.
- Therapy is dynamic, often play-based and individualized.
- The field blends science, healthcare, and education.

A Vivian Team member SLP Spotlight (from SLP to Vivian Rockstar!)
Adair Hoenig, SLP and Vivian.com VP, Customer Success
I started my career as a speech-language pathologist working across hospitals and SNFs, with a focus on adult neuro. As a travel SLP, I saw firsthand how much the right role and support system can shape both the clinician experience and patient outcomes.
My path took an unexpected turn when a call from my clinical director turned into an opportunity on the staffing side of healthcare. While my role has changed, my foundation hasn’t. I still lead with empathy and place a strong emphasis on communication, just in a different way now.
At Vivian, I have the privilege of helping clinicians find their next great opportunity, and I often find myself wishing a platform like this existed when I was traveling.
Why SLP Day Matters:
Recognition in healthcare can be limited but your work creates lasting, measurable change. National Speech-Language Pathologist Day is a reminder that your expertise and dedication matter.
You help people find and use their voice. That’s worth celebrating today and everyday!
