Originally known as the Miami City Hospital, the facility first opened its doors on June 25, 1918, with just 13 beds to serve the residents of Miami. The hospital’s growth over the last century currently offers enough space to host more than 1,700 beds to serve the community’s healthcare needs, but its patient-centered care model remains the same. Miami-Dade County owns and runs Jackson Memorial Hospital, providing tertiary care to area residents.
