Get to Know Jackson Memorial Hospital

Originally known as the Miami City Hospital, the facility first opened its doors on June 25, 1918, with just 13 beds to serve the residents of Miami. Now known as the Jackson Memorial Hospital, this location acts as the pillar of the Jackson Health System, which operates more than 50 facilities it’s acquired across Florida.

The hospital’s growth over the last century currently offers enough space to host more than 1,700 beds to serve the community’s healthcare needs, but its patient-centered care model remains the same. Jackson Memorial Hospital’s mission – “To build the health of the community by providing a single, high standard of quality care for the residents of Miami-Dade County.” – guides administrators and staff.

The award-winning teaching hospital holds itself at the forefront of medical research and ingenuity, providing its employees and patients with access to cutting-edge treatments and procedures.

Employees don’t spend 100% of their time at work, so a hospital system’s location can be a significant factor in employment decisions. Florida is a popular destination due to the variety of activities available in almost every city. Jackson Memorial Hospital is just a few miles from the Miami Beach coastline, right next to conveniently-located Metrorail stations that offer easy transportation. The Metrobus provides alternative public transit, and the area’s high population makes Uber and Lyft options accessible when needed. Employees seeking to unwind after their shifts can take advantage of Miami’s many amenities. Spending an afternoon at the beach or enjoying a meal from one of the area’s numerous award-winning restaurants are great ways to decompress in your downtime. Those looking for a little more excitement can dive into Miami’s vibrant nightlife or enjoy a family-friendly trip to one of the city’s many amusement parks or sports venues.
