This could be a better facility to work at if the work flow in the department would changed. The OR walks into the department through the Sterile Storage area then into the clean side of the department. That work flow is wrong because it negative work flow going into positive work flow. That’s cross contamination when walking unsterile instruments from the OR through the Sterile Storage area into the clean side. At the time I was on my assignment at Loudon Inova the SPD department policy was as long as there wasn’t a Patient in the room it didn’t the need to go to the Decontamination area first to be reprocessed. That SPD policy goes against PATIENT SAFETY because I learned in Training/College that once an instrument tray has been pop open and the air hit the instrument tray sterility has been compromised. The instrument tray needs to be reprocessed again and go through the complete reprocessing again starting at the decontamination area.
