Fantastic staff and culture. Would travel back in a heartbeat. It’s a unionized hospital so overtime is scarce. Typical ration 2-3 patients per nurse. It’s a low level ICU. You can live your best high flow life. Just like any other hospital it’s understaffed, under supplied and has political BS. However, in the PICU the nurse looked out for one another. Most supportive unit I’ve ever worked. 10/10 recommend.

PACU - Post Anesthesia Care

Unorganized for a level 1 trauma, beware on nights they have one or two nurses for 50+ patients. Patient ratio is 1:8. I worked evenings so I pretty much had about that ratio, however after 11pm staff drops dramatically. Charge nurses are nasty so I stayed clear did my job and left. Overall not the worse place, not the best.

Not sure how it is now. New management came in late in my contract and it was horrible. PT ratios were high and practicing dangerous medicine in hallways and triage area without monitors running drips. Payed really well though.

Overall. The whole Hackensack system is just cheap. Cheap supplies. Cheap on staffing. Always short nurses. Short techs. Trying to run the hospital at bare bones. Don’t care about staff satisfaction or retention.

Interventional radiology (specials) is a wonderful department but they are overworked and underpaid.
They need a bigger department for the volume of cases they have. The nurses and doctors and staff are amazing but very burnt out and always sick and complaining. Management is the worst I have seen. They are unorganized and don't know what they are doing. Their lack of knowledge and communication seems to place a disconnect with the rest of the staff. They try to accommodate and help but they are usually just aggravating to the already worn out staff; spreading bad energy/morale.
