Position Summary
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves directing and coordinating nursing care based on established nursing practice standards and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure quality, cost-effective, and efficient care aimed at achieving optimal patient outcomes. The nurse serves as a resource person when needed and applies age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in patient care. Responsibilities include caring for patients from birth to elderly.
Position Qualifications
- Graduation from an NLN-approved nursing program.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare setting as a Registered Nurse is preferred.
- Current, valid nursing license in the State of Alaska as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, and others listed as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process for patient care management.
- Administer treatments and medications, interpret diagnostic tests, and provide education to patients and their families.
- Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals.
- Supervise unit secretaries and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in conjunction with the Charge Nurse.
- Document care delivery actions accurately and follow guidelines and procedures.
- Manage and operate medical equipment, as appropriate for the position.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Basic EKG interpretation and general nursing skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle various concrete variables.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Flexibility regarding work schedules and the ability to work independently.
As part of this role, the Registered Nurse may be required to provide holiday coverage as necessary.
