Job Overview
The Med Surg Oncology Unit is seeking experienced Registered Nurses to provide high-quality patient care to medically complex hematology and oncology patients. The role involves managing patient treatments, facilitating communication with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring comprehensive patient and family education.
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Medical Surgical
- Unit Capacity: 6S - 16 inpatient oncology beds; 7S - 12 inpatient oncology beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3 for patients receiving chemotherapy or bone marrow transplant; 1:4-5 for regular oncology patients; 1:4-6 during nights
Shift Information
- Shift Type: Day/Night Rotation
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday
Responsibilities
- Perform head-to-toe assessments on patients.
- Administer medications and blood products as prescribed.
- Manage symptom and side effect treatment.
- Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient care plans.
- Educate patients and their families on treatment processes.
- Float to other med-surg units and locations as needed within the region.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a large hospital setting (250+ beds).
- Experience in a busy level 1 trauma center preferred.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
- Current North Dakota RN License or Compact RN License.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
- Travel nursing experience is highly preferred.
- Inpatient oncology experience is preferred; hematology and bone marrow transplant experience is a bonus.
Training and Orientation
New staff will undergo 8 hours of classroom training followed by 24-36 hours of unit-specific training to ensure readiness to deliver care in this specialized setting.
Dress Code
All staff are required to wear navy blue scrubs during their shifts.
