Overview

The CVOR Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) plays a crucial role in cardiovascular surgery by providing assistance in various surgical procedures and maintaining a sterile environment. This position requires a candidate with strong clinical skills and experience in a fast-paced surgical setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in cardiovascular surgical procedures including, but not limited to:
• Aortic Aneurysm repair
• Atherectomy
• ASD repair
• Cardiomyoplasty
• Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
• Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
• Mitral valve replacement
• Pericardial window
• Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) management
• Participate actively in preoperative and postoperative care.
• Maintain equipment and assure a sterile environment throughout surgical procedures.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care.

Scheduling Details

• Shift hours: 0600-1630
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• On-call requirement: Participation in on-call shifts Friday to Sunday during scheduled weeks.
• Requests for time off should be submitted and may only be accommodated if approved at the time of booking.
• Facility may call off one shift per two-week period.
• Overtime may be required as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in CVOR with Level 1 Trauma experience.
• CST certification through NBSTSA is mandatory.
• BLS certification is required.
• Preference for candidates with experience in First Assist roles and familiar with advanced cardiovascular procedures.

Patient Population

The CVOR team typically handles an average of three heart surgeries per day, providing critical care to patients in a high-volume environment.

Floating

Occasional floating may be required based on census and staffing needs, limited to units where the candidate is qualified and trained.
