Shift Information

This position offers variable shifts with hours worked per two-week period. There is no guarantee of hours or shift preference.

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a critical care setting is required. Candidates with experience in Emergency Room (ER) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) may be considered as substitutes for direct PACU experience.

Certifications and Requirements

• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications from the American Heart Association.
• Valid professional nursing license in the state of practice.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification is recommended and may be required for specific positions.
• Other specialty-related certifications (e.g., NIHSS, TNCC) are preferred and may be required.

Job Description

The PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for providing care to patients in the post-anesthesia recovery unit. This role requires advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and critical care skills. Duties include:

• Caring for patients during pre-op, and phases I and II of recovery.
• Assessing incision sites, monitoring vital signs, and evaluating indicators of patient stability or complications.
• Delivering high-quality nursing care and demonstrating critical thinking abilities.

The following equipment may be utilized within the unit:

• Meditech
• PCA Pumps
• Pyxis
• Braun IV Pumps
• Cryocuff
• SCDs (Sequential Compression Devices)
• Bair PAWS Warmers
• HP Monitors
• Phillips Monitors

Shift and Schedule Requirements

Shifts may vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours and can include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The schedule fluctuates between units such as ASU and PACU, with no guarantee of specific hours or shift preferences.

Holiday Coverage

Holiday coverage is required for this position.

Flu Vaccination Requirement

Proof of flu vaccination or an approved application for medical or religious exceptions will be required prior to the start date. The flu vaccination may be administered during the employee health clearance appointment.

Interested candidates must ensure they possess an active state nursing license by the start of the assignment.
