Position Overview

This position involves working in an acute care rehabilitation setting, focusing on specialized care for patients with various rehabilitation needs including but not limited to CVA, TBI, ABI, spinal cord injuries, and generalized debility. The role requires a commitment to delivering high-quality nursing care during night shifts, with responsibilities across multiple locations as needed.

Schedule

Shifts consist of three 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. The nurse will also be expected to work every third weekend and on holidays as needed. Travel between multiple locations may be required.

Patient Care Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments including interpretation of laboratory results and medication reconciliation.
• Maintain vital signs and monitor patient health status.
• Perform dressing changes and set up aseptic/sterile procedure trays.
• Carry out capillary blood tests, labeling of specimens, and various phlebotomy procedures.
• Engage in telephone triage, including handling pharmacy calls and patient refill requests.

Patient Ratios

The nurse-to-patient ratio is generally 1:6, with the potential for 1:7 in specific units, where the patient acuity remains consistent across both ratios.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience in an acute care setting; first-time travelers are not accepted.
• Acute care rehabilitation experience is preferred.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Familiarity with EPIC and basic nursing procedures.

Key Skills

• Ability to interpret laboratory results and perform medication reconciliation.
• Competency in vital sign monitoring including blood pressure, respirations, temperature, and pulse.
• Skilled in dressing changes and aseptic/sterile procedures.
• Efficient in performing laboratory specimen collections.
• Proficient in telephone triage and patient communication.

Specialized Care Focus

Care primarily involves patients recovering from strokes, aneurysms, and post-operative surgical procedures, emphasizing an individualized approach to rehabilitation.
