Shift Details

This position requires working night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM, starting as soon as possible.

Job Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of routine and complex laboratory procedures, including specimen processing, testing of patient specimens, quality control procedures, and operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment. This role may also include assisting in the development of new procedures and protocols, performing phlebotomy, and conducting other related tasks as directed.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill the applicable competencies required for the role.
• Perform both routine and complex laboratory procedures specific to assigned areas while considering age and sex-specific values.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment; initiate minor repairs or notify relevant personnel as necessary.
• Cross-train in other laboratory sections as needed.
• Ensure adherence to the laboratory's quality control program.
• Calculate, enter, and verify results of laboratory procedures.
• Utilize the Laboratory Information System efficiently.
• Document and notify relevant personnel of critical laboratory values obtained.
• Process patient specimens, including collection and handling, while being mindful of pediatric specimen volume requirements.
• Participate in the evaluation, development, and implementation of new or updated testing procedures and protocols.
• Demonstrate competence in performing patient care responsibilities, accommodating the specific needs of diverse patient populations.
• Adapt assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet the unique developmental needs of each patient.
• Exhibit adherence to organizational core values.
• Complete all compliance and regulatory tasks, following applicable policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education/Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience as per CLIA regulation.
• OR Education evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency, deemed equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields.

Experience

• No prior experience is required for graduates of a clinical laboratory training program certified by NAACLS or other recognized organizations.
• Alternatively, one year of approved clinical laboratory experience, including clinical rotations in Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids, may be necessary.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Must possess certification as MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from recognized organizations.
• Expired certifications must be maintained and kept current.
• State licensure in Louisiana is required.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with night shift hours from 7 PM to 7 AM.
