Job Summary:
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties:

• Education:
  • Participates in identifying and meeting self-learning needs.
  • Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers.
  • Evaluates developmental levels of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care.
  • Engages in discussions with interdisciplinary team members in evaluating patient care.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in care for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
  • Performs bedside point of care testing as required for the patient care plan.
  • Utilizes organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient/family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources regarding complex care issues, unusual teaching needs, and discharge planning.
• Leadership:
  • Develops goals to promote professional growth or addresses limitations with assistance.
  • Aims to achieve goals and objectives within identified time frames.
  • Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Effectively utilizes communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
  • Provides constructive feedback to co-workers.
• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
  • Considers physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
  • Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful insights prior to communication with others.
  • Evaluates and anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
  • Develops relationships with families to empower their advocacy for patients and their needs.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients/families to prepare or update care plans.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
  • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex challenges.
• Research:
  • Engages with journals and articles relevant to practice.
  • Brings ideas and questions to the staff for evaluation of applicability.

Skills & Experience:

  • One (1) year of nursing experience.

Education:

• Required Education:
  • Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred Education:
  • BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.
