Job Summary:
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

• Education:
  • Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self.
  • Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to patient population.
  • Assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers.
  • Evaluates the developmental level of the patient and factors affecting the ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance as needed in revision of the plan of care.
  • Participates in discussions with interdisciplinary team members in evaluation of patient care.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in the care of patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
  • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required for the patient care plan.
  • Utilizes organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in the delivery of care.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues and unusual teaching needs.
• Leadership:
  • Develops goals to promote professional growth or address limitations, with assistance.
  • Achieves goals and objectives within the identified time frame or renegotiates with supervisors.
  • Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
  • Effectively uses communication systems and provides feedback to co-workers.
  • Promotes a safe and secure hospital environment for all.
• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes complex data to determine priorities for care.
  • Synthesizes assessment data into a coherent understanding prior to communication with others.
  • Assesses and anticipates the discharge needs of patients and families.
  • Develops relationships with families that empower them to advocate for themselves and their loved ones.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients/families to prepare or update the plan of care.
  • Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
  • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues relevant to patient care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
• Research:
  • Reads journals and studies relevant to practice.
  • Brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.

Education

• Required: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of nursing.
• Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited school of nursing.

Certifications & Licensure

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

Schedule Notes

Must have charge experience or be willing to undergo orientation for charge duties; 48-hour contracts approved.
