Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• 12-hour shifts available: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, 11:00 AM - 11:30 PM, and 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6
• 29-bed unit with telemetry techs monitoring 24/7 - RNs not required to read strips
• Nursing assistants present on unit with varying ratios by shift; RNs carry additional responsibilities for vital signs and ADLs during evening and overnight hours
• Common patient diagnoses include ortho trauma (fractures, joint replacements), vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes), urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), neuro-spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), OBGYN oncology, and acute medical admissions
• RNs required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram; common drips include heparin, nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
• RT support present on unit; equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy - no ventilators
• Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling utilized based on staffing needs
• Charge nurse takes an assignment on all shifts; house supervisor present on all shifts
• Charting system: Cerner
• Scrub color: Any color, clean and professional
• Unit orientation includes 1 day of computer training and 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation
• Minimum 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• Required certification: BLS (AHA)
• BSN not required
• Must clock in and out at the facility

This acute care facility operates as a Level 2 Trauma Center, offering a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services. The 29-bed medical-surgical unit supports a diverse patient population spanning orthopedic trauma, vascular, urology, neuro-spine, and oncology specialties. The facility maintains strong support systems including 24/7 telemetry monitoring, respiratory therapy, nursing assistants, and house supervisors on every shift to ensure high-quality patient care.
