Trauma Stepdown RN
Overview
- Travel RN role in Trauma Stepdown
- 7P–7A schedule
- 36 hours per week
- 13-week contract
- Unit: Surgical Trauma-63610
- 25-bed unit on the 5th floor of the Main building
- Floating to stepdown service lines: Progressive Care Unit and Heart and Vascular Unit
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS
- Trauma experience
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
Preferred Qualifications
- Trauma/Orthopedic experience
- Meditech experience
Unit Details
- Patient ratio: 1:4, with 1:5 max for stepdown
- No on-call requirement
- Telemetry monitoring
- Vitals every 4 hours
- Q4 patient assessment
Clinical Scope
- Trauma surgery
- Bariatric surgery
- Vascular surgery
- Traumatic brain injury
- General surgery
- Urological surgery
- Orthopedic surgery
- Neuro / Spine surgery
- GI bleed / endoscopy
- Pulmonary embolus
- Neurological diagnoses including CVA, TIA, TBI, s/p neuro-surgery, altered mental status
- Meningitis
- New onset seizures
- Hypertensive crisis
- Chest pain and CHF
- Sepsis, hemodynamically stable
- Alcohol withdrawal
- Pre- and post-cardiac cath lab procedural patients
- Post-op CV surgery patients when hemodynamically stable
- Unstable angina and suspected MI, including NSTEMI and STEMI
- Chest pain rule-out patients
- Chest pain with acute EKG changes and/or elevated troponin
- Acute cardiac dysrhythmias requiring IV/PO medication management
- Hypertensive urgency
- Mild to moderate congestive heart failure with elevated BNP and/or pulmonary edema on chest x-ray without shock
- Respiratory distress with documented SpO2 88% or below on room air requiring Venti mask, BiPAP, or CPAP
- Post-op femoropopliteal bypass, peripheral stents, and post aortograms
- Post-op CEA
- Pulmonary embolus requiring heparin drip
- Patients meeting PACU discharge criteria
- IV drips used on the unit: Agatroban, Agrastat/Integrelin/ReoPro, Amiodarone, Cardene, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Heparin, Lasix, Morphine or Ativan for palliative care, Nitroglycerin, Primacor, Sodium Bicarbonate
