RN - PICU

Location: Richmond, Virginia Employment type: Travel Contract length: 13 weeks Hours per week: 36

Unit Overview

Unit: PICU, a combined Pediatrics/PICU unit with 10 beds
Shifts: Day and night shift opportunities, including weekends and holidays
Patient ratios: Based on patient acuity and the approved staffing grid
Staffing: Registered nurses with pediatric and critical care experience, supported by pediatric hospitalists, PICU intensivists, and dedicated pediatric respiratory therapists
Equipment: Pediatric cardiac monitors, infusion/syringe pumps, pupilometer, and Ceribel
Floating: Based on competency and patient care needs. May float to LDRP to care for well babies, and at times to the main hospital
Dress code: Pediatric-friendly required uniform
Unit guidelines: Staffing guidelines are available

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Virginia
PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care (2 years of experience)
PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care experience within the last year
BLS
PALS
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Experience in a hospital setting
Experience with ventilator management
Experience with central line management
Noninvasive respiratory support (high-flow oxygen and noninvasive ventilation) for pediatric patients
Management of continuous sedation and vasoactive medication infusions
Invasive monitoring care for pediatric patients

Procedures Performed on Unit

Peripheral IV placement, venipuncture, and specimen collection
Central line management and placement
Urinary catheter and nasogastric/orogastric tube insertion
Assistance with intubation and lumbar puncture
Emergency stabilization and pediatric resuscitation
