Cardiovascular Operating Room Technician (CVOR Tech)

Position Overview:

As a Cardiovascular Operating Room Technician (CVOR Tech), you will play a vital role in supporting complex cardiac surgeries by maintaining sterile conditions, preparing surgical equipment, and assisting the surgical team throughout high-acuity procedures. This position offers the chance to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment with a focus on professional growth and recognition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the scrub technologist for open-heart, thoracic, and vascular procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repairs, aortic surgeries, and Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantations.
  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields, managing complex instrument sets, grafts, prosthetic valves, cannulas, and specialized disposables to ensure readiness for each case.
  • Pass instruments, sutures, and supplies with precision and efficiency, anticipating the needs of the surgical team during high-stakes cardiac surgeries.
  • Collaborate with perfusionists and circulating staff to set up and transition on bypass circuits, including pump priming and management of cardiopulmonary bypass.
  • Ensure strict adherence to sterile techniques and safety protocols throughout all procedures.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment and maintaining sterile field integrity in high-pressure situations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Associate degree or completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a surgical technologist in a hospital operating room, specifically with cardiovascular or cardiothoracic surgeries.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from NBSTSA required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) a plus.
  • Previous experience in cardiovascular surgical procedures highly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
