Description

Join Our Team at FSN — Where Your Expertise Makes a Difference

At FSN, we prioritize the healthcare professionals we serve. We understand that you're seeking more than just a job — you're looking for a role that aligns with your career goals, offers competitive compensation, and fits your personal lifestyle. That's why our approach is personalized; we take the time to understand your aspirations and present you with opportunities tailored to your needs.

Position Overview

FSN is seeking experienced Sterile Processing Technicians for travel assignments at a Level I trauma center in Columbus, OH. This is a large academic medical center with an extremely high surgical volume and a fast-paced sterile processing department. These assignments require seasoned travelers who have worked in a facility of comparable size and acuity, are proficient in every area of the department, and can perform independently with minimal orientation.
In this critical role, you will be responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, and proper handling of surgical instruments and scopes, playing a vital part in patient safety and quality care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate all items processed by the department, including power drills, da Vinci robotic instrumentation, and flexible/rigid scopes.
  • Assemble instruments and trays across all service lines, including trauma sets, loaner trays, and peel-pack items.
  • Perform sterilization using both steam and STERRAD (hydrogen peroxide gas plasma) systems; run and document biological, chemical, and mechanical indicators in compliance with AAMI standards and The Joint Commission regulations.
  • Perform high-level disinfection (HLD) and scope reprocessing using Medivator automated endoscope reprocessors.
  • Manage sterile storage, including stock rotation, inspection of package integrity, and event-related sterility practices.
  • Serve as OR liaison: coordinate case cart readiness, respond to instrument requests, and communicate directly with surgical services on turnaround and availability.
  • Track instruments and trays using the Censitrac instrument management system; flag missing, damaged, or malfunctioning instruments.
  • Adhere strictly to infection control protocols, PPE guidelines, and OSHA standards across all decontamination and sterile processing work zones.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, ensuring efficient workflow and compliance with hospital policies.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Current CRCST (HSPA, formerly IAHCSMM) or CBSPD certification required. Candidates who are certification-eligible but not yet certified will not be considered.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent sterile processing experience in an acute-care hospital.
  • Prior experience in a Level I/II trauma center or comparable high-volume academic medical center required.
  • Hands-on experience in all of the following is required:
    • Decontamination of drills, da Vinci instrumentation, and scopes
    • Assembly across all service lines, including trauma, loaners, and peel packaging
    • Steam and STERRAD sterilization
    • HLD and scope reprocessing
    • Sterile storage
    • OR liaison duties
    • Censitrac tracking system
    • Medivator reprocessors (required — see submission requirement below)
  • Previous travel assignment experience strongly preferred.
  • BLS certification preferred; CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure in a high-volume environment.

Eligibility Restrictions

  • Candidates who have previously worked as permanent staff at any facility within the client health system, or who have completed a travel assignment at any location within that health system, are not eligible.
  • Travelers who have reached the one-year maximum contract limit within the health system are not eligible for extensions or future assignments.
