Job Summary for Medical Technologist Position

- Position: Medical Technologist
- Setting: Hospital clinical laboratory (Critical Access, Magnet Hospital, 25 beds)
- Shifts:
- Orientation: 1.5 weeks on day shift (0600-1430)
- Contract: Primarily 1430-2300, every other weekend required
- Occasional overnight shifts as needed
- Procedures/Tests Performed:
- CBCWD, CMP, CRP, LFP
- Type and Screen with crossmatch
- Routine and blood cultures
- Respiratory PCR testing
- PT/INR, ESR, Lactic acid, HA1C
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience required
- First-timers accepted
- Certifications:
- ASCP required
- Active license required (pending not accepted)
- Work Requirements:
- Must work every other weekend
- Floating to all lab areas required
- On-call not required
- Block schedule requests to be discussed with manager
- Locals accepted (no radius restriction)
- Specialized Skills/Experience (Required):
- Blood Bank: ABO/Rh/Antibody Screen & ID, Crossmatch (various methods), Transfusion Reaction Workup, etc.
- Chemistry: Urinalysis, Cardiac enzymes, Hormone/Thyroid, Immunoassay, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, etc.
- Equipment: Siemen's Dimensions, Sysmex XM
- Hematology/Coagulation: Automated instruments, Manual differential, Platelet count, etc.
- Immunology/Serology: ASO titer, Rheumatoid Factor, Rubella, RPR, etc.
- Microbiology: Culture plating, Gram stain, PCR testing, Rapid test kits, Wet prep, etc.
- Specimen Handling: Accessioning, Collection, Transport, Reporting test results
- Urinalysis: Analyzer, Crystal ID, Manual/Microscopic UA, Semen analysis
- Professional: Blood specimen storage, Hazardous material handling, Venipuncture, Quality control
- Charting System: Cerner (preferred but not required)
- Guaranteed Hours:
- Facility may call off up to 36 hours per 13-week contract without pay
- More than 36 hours called off will be billable
- Other Requirements:
- Must be in IL 3 business days prior to compliance for fingerprinting
- Parking permit required (no cost)
- Scrubs not required
- RTO ideally no more than 5 days
