Position Overview

NuWest is seeking an experienced Surgical Technician for an 8-week assignment supporting a busy Labor & Delivery unit in Torrance, CA. The ST supports the daily activities of the unit, including triage, complicated labor and deliveries, emergencies, urgent and scheduled C-sections, post-op recovery, breastfeeding support, and neonatal resuscitation. The ideal candidate is adaptable, anticipates the surgical team’s needs, and supports both routine and complex procedures while keeping patient safety and workflow efficiency front and center. Candidates must be fully committed to the full 8-week assignment.

Key Responsibilities

• Circulate and assist during a wide range of surgical procedures, including urgent and scheduled C-sections
• Maintain sterile technique and follow operating room protocols to ensure patient safety
• Prepare, set up, and handle surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, demonstrating thorough knowledge of instrumentation across multiple specialties
• Anticipate the surgical team’s needs and provide efficient support during both complex and routine procedures
• Support triage, complicated labor and deliveries, and emergency obstetric situations
• Assist with neonatal resuscitation and post-operative recovery
• Provide breastfeeding support as part of the care team
• Maintain compliance with unit policies, infection control standards, and applicable regulations

Required Qualifications

• Active Surgical Technician certification
• Minimum 1 year of recent operating room experience in a Level 1 Trauma setting, with completed formal training in the perioperative environment
• Current AHA BLS, plus MAB or CPI certification
• LA City Fire and Life Safety card (must be LA City)
• Completion of the LA County Employee Health Clearance before the assignment start date; ability to pass required background check and drug screening
