Position Overview

NuWest is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist for an 8-week contract assignment in Sylmar, California. The ST prepares instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures and maintains the sterile field throughout each case. The ST works within the legal scope of practice and in line with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. This opportunity is ideal for a professional who is fully committed to completing the 8-week assignment.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain the sterile field and monitor for breaks in sterile technique throughout each procedure
• Prepare operating rooms by setting up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment according to the surgeon’s preference cards and procedure requirements
• Pass instruments, supplies, and sutures to the surgeon and surgical team, anticipating needs during the procedure
• Perform surgical counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after procedures
• Handle and label specimens, and apply sterile dressings at the close of the procedure
• Scrub in and assist with draping, positioning, and the care of the surgical site
• Turn over the operating room between cases, including cleaning, decontaminating, and restocking
• Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory standards and document accurately

Required Qualifications

• Active Surgical Technician certification
• Minimum of 1 year of in- or out-patient experience as a Surgical Technologist
• Current AHA BLS and MAB or CPI certification
• LA City Fire and Life Safety card (must be LA City)
• Proof of full COVID and seasonal flu vaccinations
