Med/Surg Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Chester, South Carolina Facility type: Acute care, 44 staffed beds Contract length: 13 weeks Scrub color: Royal Blue Parking: No cost

Schedule and Staffing

• Shift: 3x12-hour days, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM, with a holiday rotation (12 hours per day, 36 hours per week)
• Weekends: Every other weekend
• Patient ratio: 1:6-7
• On-call: Not required
• Float: Not required to float within scope or between like units or sister facilities
• Guaranteed hours: The facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Block schedule: Can be requested before assignment, but approval is not guaranteed
• Time off requests (RTO): All RTO must be included at submission; approval depends on facility needs
• Local candidates: Accepted within a 60-mile radius
• Hurricane season (June through November): Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams. Travelers should not confirm a new or extended assignment during the season if this is a concern.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg experience (2 years)
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• Experience with Epic
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Health and Immunizations

• Physical exam: Required before start, updated annually
• TB screening: T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required
• Drug screen: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• Immunity documentation (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella): Positive titer or 2 vaccines; low titers require 2 boosters 28 days apart
• Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form required
• Tdap: Within 10 years of start, or a declination form
• Flu vaccine or exemption: Required for the 2026-27 season; documentation due by December 4, 2026
• COVID vaccine: Not required, but highly preferred

Background and Compliance

• Annual background check: Covers all locations lived or worked in the past 7 years, completed within 1 year of start. Includes SSN trace, out-of-state county and statewide SC searches, sex offender registry, national criminal search, and international searches.
• HHS/OIG and EPLS/SAM checks: Required within 30 days of start
• State exclusion list: Required
• Work history verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified through a third-party vendor
• Identity and work eligibility: Driver's license or state ID copy, Social Security card copy, and E-Verify attestation
• References: 2 clinical references (hospital evaluation also accepted)
• Documents: Employment application or resume, and skills checklist (updated annually)

Onboarding

• Orientation modules: Required before start, about 2 hours, completed on a laptop or computer (not a phone). Travelers who have not completed them at orientation will be sent home.
• Badge photo: Required. Frontal, passport-style, from the shoulders up, with a solid background.
• Pre-start paperwork: Several forms must be signed, completed, or reviewed before start, including the assignment acknowledgment, confidentiality agreements, pre-hire orientation and attestation, pre-hire medical evaluation, and job description.
