Schedule/Shift

Primarily 12-hour shifts, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. with one 8-hour shift on Fridays. On-call required during Friday nights from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist will work within a small community hospital respiratory therapy department, managing patients with emphysema, asthma, and other respiratory diseases. Responsibilities will include non-invasive ventilation, high-flow oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and analysis, and chest physiotherapy. Invasive ventilation is stabilized in the emergency room and transferred to a sister hospital for further care. Experience with Phillips V60 BiPAP, BiPAP Vision, and Teleflex High Flow Nasal Cannulas is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for adult patients in critical care settings.
• Administer aerosol therapy and medications such as Albuterol, Atrovent, and Spiriva.
• Perform procedures including extubation, tracheostomy care, and sputum specimen collection.
• Interpret arterial blood gases and troubleshoot high-pressure alarms.
• Wean patients from mechanical ventilation as appropriate.
• Maintain documentation in the Epic charting system.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in a critical care setting.
• Experience with patient care in a community hospital.

Certifications/Licensure

• Current ACLS, BLS, CRT certifications required.
• State licensure in New York is required to submit.
