Job Description

The position is for a Registered Nurse in a mixed acuity unit that serves both Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical Telemetry (MS Tele) patients. The RN will be expected to manage various patient diagnoses, including surgical pre and post-operative care, general surgery, trauma surgery, and orthopedic surgery. The unit may also occasionally accommodate overflow medical diagnosis patients and rare pediatric patients. Familiarity with EPIC for documentation and Pyxis for medication administration is essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to PCU and MS Tele patients with adjusted ratios based on acuity.
• Interpret and manage dysrhythmias, post-myocardial infarction care, and IV insulin protocols.
• Administer blood products, manage central lines, and perform phlebotomy.
• Oversee continuous bladder irrigation and care for renal failure patients.
• Manage cardiac drips without titration and PCA (patient-controlled analgesia).
• Provide post-operative care for various surgical procedures including total joint replacements and mastectomy.
• Utilize advanced airway management techniques, including CPAP/BIPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
• Ensure adherence to isolation precautions and wound care protocols.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years.
• Experience in telemetry and managing a variety of medical diagnoses.

Certifications/Licensure

• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification required.
• PALS certification preferred.
• Current New York state nursing license required.
