Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist will provide quality patient care, including intensive respiratory care and patient transport as prescribed, operating under minimal supervision. Key responsibilities include evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining procedures and equipment to patients, and providing education upon discharge. The therapist will conduct treatments with various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers, perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning, and monitor oximetry and capnography.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory and aerosol devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods.
• Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography.
• Conduct routine reviews of patient chest x-rays for evaluation.
• Assist in respiratory care procedures per policy guidelines.
• Communicate with physicians regarding therapy efficiency and patient status.
• Maintain accurate records of treatments and patient responses.
• Perform arterial punctures and tracheostomy care including tube management.
• Engage in cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Ensure proper maintenance and functionality of ventilatory equipment.

Required Experience

• Current NJ State Licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Certifications/Licensure

• Current BLS and ACLS certification.
• Active Respiratory Therapist license in New Jersey.
