Job Summary

Pathology Assistant, Pathology This role performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic procedures on biological specimens to support diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and disease prevention. Responsibilities include complex specimen grossing, intra-procedural consultations, post-mortem examinations, quality control, troubleshooting, and laboratory compliance activities in a high-volume acute care setting.

Job Details

Schedule: Day shift, 8 hours per shift, 40 hours per week.
Required Qualifications: Pathologists' Assistant (PA) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); at least 2 years of experience; demonstrated ability to gross specimens in an acute care setting.
Additional Information:
- Receives, verifies, accessions, processes, and documents biological specimens.
- Performs gross dissection and description of pathology specimens of varying complexity.
- Performs or assists with intra-procedural consultations, gross examinations, and frozen sectioning.
- Performs post-mortem examinations, including clinical history review, dissection, tissue selection, and documentation of gross findings.
- Performs ancillary procedures such as decalcification, photography, and X-ray imaging.
- Manages pathology materials, including tissue storage, retrieval, and disposal of tissue and chemical waste.
- Supports quality control, validation, implementation of new testing methods, compliance activities, and troubleshooting.
- Participates in accessioning and coding audits and provides feedback to support process improvement.
- Completes 16 hours of orientation.
