Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical

Unit Information

Number of Beds: 36

Number of Staff: 40 RNs (8 bedside RNs per shift)

Staff Composition:

• Day Shift: 8 RNs, 1 Charge RN, 1 Unit Secretary, 1 Manager, 1 CNC
• Night Shift: 8 RNs

Patient Ratios: 1:5

Type of Equipment: Bariatric fitted ADLs, Wound Vacs, Drains, Lifts

EMR: Meditech

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain post-operative surgical procedure sites
• Provide wound care, including packing, dressing changes, and wound vac maintenance
• Administer Foley catheter care, including continuous bladder irrigation
• Change and maintain ostomy appliances
• Insert and manage nasogastric tubes and suction
• Manage total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
• Administer blood transfusions
• Care for central lines and perform dressing changes
• Conduct bedside shift reports

Preferred Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Time management and efficiency in a fast-paced environment with short length of stay (LOS)
• Strong teamwork abilities

Preferred Skills:

• Background in post-operative surgical areas (vascular, bariatric, urology, general surgery, colorectal, etc.)

Personality Fit

Ideal candidates will be outgoing and customer service-oriented.

Required Certifications

• BLS Certification

Floating Areas

Potential to float to Medical-Surgical Units.

Scrub colors: Black, Grey, White, Royal Blue.

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
