Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

Unit Type: Labor & Delivery

Location: Alexandria, LA

General Information:

Number of Beds: 2 triage rooms, 10 labor rooms, 2 operating rooms
Staffing:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 6 RNs, 1 scrub tech, 1 secretary
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 5 RNs, 1 scrub, 1 secretary
Patient Ratios: 1:1 and 2:1 depending on acuity
Equipment: Fetal monitors, IUPC, FSE, fluid warmer, IV pumps, epidural pumps
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: CPN, Meditech

Job Responsibilities

Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the labor and delivery unit.
Perform vaginal deliveries, C-sections, amniocentesis, amnioinfusions, and IUPC/FSE placements.
Ensure proficient interpretation of fetal strips and effective IV starts and lab draws.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

Proficient in starting IVs and drawing labs
Ability to interpret fetal strips
Proficient in conducting vaginal examinations
Experience as an OB circulator

Preferred Skills:

Ability to scrub for surgical procedures

Best Personality Fit

Organized with excellent time management skills
Empathetic, caring, and compassionate towards patients

Certifications Required

BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Additional Details

Dress Code: Teal scrubs for nursing staff, navy for technicians
Weekend Requirements: Rotation every other weekend
Floating Area: Closed unit with coverage to postpartum
