Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Cath Lab / Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist for an exciting opportunity. The ideal candidate should have experience working at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
This position is for day shift and includes an on-call rotation for weeknights, weekends, and holidays. The candidate will receive training in various specialties including Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Neurology, Interventional Radiology, and Electrophysiology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Verify patient identification and ensure the presence of signed informed procedural consent.
- Identify allergies and history of contrast reactions prior to procedures by reviewing patient records and interviewing the patient.
- Verify the integrity and expiration of sterile supplies and medications.
- Prepare equipment for sterilization and monitor vital signs pre- and post-procedure.
- Participate in pre-procedural time-out activities to ensure patient safety.
- Prepare patient access sites using sterile drapes and covers, while maintaining patient comfort and familiarity with the equipment.
- Select appropriate contrast agents in coordination with the physician and operate automatic contrast injectors.
- Assist in administering injectable medications, including analgesics and anticoagulants, as directed by physician orders.
- Recognize and respond to patient emergencies, monitoring and maintaining medical equipment during procedures.
- Scrub in with the physician using sterile techniques to help prevent infection.
- Advocate for radiation safety, wear personnel radiation dosimeters, and document fluoroscopy times and radiation doses.
- Position patients and imaging equipment to achieve desired projections while optimizing image quality.
- Acquire and process digital images and assist with ultrasound guidance for vascular access or biopsies.
- Monitor and record all procedural data, including managed medications and complications.
- Provide post-procedural care, including applying pressure to puncture sites and assisting with vascular closure devices.
- Offer practical instruction for students and peers as needed.
Education and Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited radiology program.
- IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required.
- ARRT(R) certification is required.
- ARRT(VI) or ARRT(CI) certification is required.
- BLS certification is required.
- ACLS certification is required.
- PALS certification is required.
- NIHSS certification is preferred.
Shift Information
This position entails day shifts with an on-call rotation, including holiday coverage.
Minimum Experience Required
A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role is required.
