Job Description

The Registered Nurse in the Medical/Surgical unit will provide high-acuity care to patients, including those with surgical needs, traumatic injuries, and complex health conditions such as quadriplegia and paraplegia. The nursing professional will work as part of a cohesive team that includes nursing support technicians and phlebotomists, with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 5:1.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with high-acuity needs.
• Perform thorough assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Provide education and support to patients and families.
• Utilize the EPIC electronic health record system for documentation and communication.

Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical/surgical nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
• Ability to work flexible shifts; no block scheduling available.
• Experience with high-acuity patient populations.

Work Environment

This position will involve providing care on a high acuity floor, where nurses will handle a range of challenging and diverse patient cases. Night staff support will include a unit secretary, and timely nurse handoffs will be conducted with the emergency department and admitting units.
