Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Stepdown unit. This nursing position involves a night shift and offers the opportunity to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• Number of Beds: 22
• Nurse-Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Common Diagnoses: Heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, stroke
• Additional Support: Nurse aides/patient care techs available with a ratio of 1:10

Shift Details

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift Times: 18:30 - 07:00
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: 1 major holiday, 1 minor holiday

Role Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care to patients in a Stepdown unit setting.
• Administer medications and manage IVs, including titration of drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin.
• Cluster patient monitoring – read and interpret telemetry strips.
• Work collaboratively with a charge nurse who also takes a full patient assignment.
• Assist with CPAP therapy as needed.
• May be required to float to the ICU if appropriately experienced.

Qualifications

• Years of Experience: 2 years required
• Required Certifications:
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)

Orientation and Training

New hires will be required to complete a 12-hour department-specific orientation, including a pass/fail exam on skills learned during the orientation. A score of 90% is required to successfully complete the exam.

• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care departments; refusal to comply will result in termination.
• A driver's license is required for verification of residency outside a 50-mile radius.
