Located in Spokane Valley, WA, this facility is a Level III Trauma Center with 123 beds, serving a smaller community within the region.

Unit Information

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year of Telemetry or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.

Patient Types & Common Diagnoses

• 3rd Floor: Medical/Surgical (44 Beds)
  • Medical patients: COPD, CHF, Sepsis, AKI/CKD, DVT, PE, cellulitis, pancreatitis, ETOH
  • Surgical/Ortho: total joints (knees/hips), GI (exploratory lap, hemicolectomy, bowel resection), GU (TURP, cystos, CBI), GYN (total/partial hysterectomy), podiatry, ENT
  • Telemetry capable with tech support for bedside monitoring
• 2nd Floor: Acute Respiratory Floor (16 Beds)
  • Patients with COPD, pneumonia, CHF, and other respiratory conditions
  • High flow and BiPAP support available
• 1st Floor: ED/MS Overflow
  • Observation and general Medical/Surgical patients
• Progressive Care
  • PCU level patients managed within the Critical Care Unit, excluding ICU patients
  • Common conditions: Afib RVR, medical and surgical progressive care patients

Patient Ratios

• MedSurg: 1:5
• PCU: 1:3 (no CNA support)

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation exam (to be completed during compliance process)

Essential Skills

• High flow oxygen management
• Chest tube care
• Peripheral IV initiation and maintenance
• Wound care and dressing changes
• Wound vac management
• Drains management (JP, hemovacs)
• Pain management (including PCA)
• Central line management
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation competency

Support Within the Department

• CNA support on Med-Surg units
• Charge RN available as a resource
• 24/7 Phlebotomy service for peripheral draws
• 24/7 Respiratory Therapy
• 24/7 Hospitalist coverage
• Therapy services (OT, PT, SLP) available during days
• Rapid Response and Code Team present
• Centralized telemetry monitoring available 24/7

Floating Policy

The candidate will float between the PCU and MedSurg units as needed throughout the hospital.

Orientation Details

Orientation includes 1 day of classroom training followed by 12 hours on the unit, with sessions across three different units. Candidates must successfully pass the cardiac rhythm interpretation exam prior to starting work.

Scheduling Information

• Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday expectations: 1 holiday per contract
• Allowed time off: Approval for up to 5 days
