Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care to laboring mothers, assist with postpartum care, support normal newborn deliveries, and participate in triage and operating room circulation as needed.

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Labor and Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP)
• Number of L&D Beds: 14
• Operating Room Suites: 2 (staffing for C-sections is provided within the unit)
• Triage Beds: 3
• Special Care Nursery: 5 beds for Level 2 care
• Annual Births: Approximately 1000
• Patient Ratios: Follow AWHONN guidelines (1:1 for active labor, dedicated baby nurse at every birth, 1:3 in special care nursery, 1:2-3 couplets for recovered moms)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide care to laboring mothers and monitor fetal heart rate patterns.
• Assist in normal newborn deliveries and neonatal transitions.
• Support postpartum care for both mothers and newborns.
• Participate in triage assessments and work in the operating room as needed.
• Administer medications and titrate drips according to physician orders.
• Monitor patients for epidural administration and adjust rates as directed by anesthesia.
• Collaborate with a small, dedicated team and contribute to a positive work environment.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery nursing required.
• Certifications: Current BLS Certification and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification are required.
• Triage Experience: Required for floating to triage and special care nursery.
• Skills: Experience with circulating C-sections preferred but not required; designated personnel available for sterile processing needs.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively assist with high-risk patients including multiples and VBACs.

Schedule and Requirements

• Shift: 12-hour night shifts with weekend and holiday rotations.
• Orientation: Includes 2 days on the unit with precepting.
• Dress Code: Hospital provided scrubs required.
• Floating: Potential to float to the special care nursery if qualified, but no floating outside of the labor and delivery unit.
