Unit Information

Location: Brownsville, TX

• Number of Beds: 11
• Number of Staff: 8 RNs
• Day Shift: 2 RNs, 1 ED Physician, 1 Radiology Tech
• Night Shift: 2 RNs, 1 ED Physician, 1 Radiology Tech
• Security: On campus from 12 PM to 4 AM
• Patient Ratios: Team Nursing
• Type of Equipment: Standard Emergency Department
• EMR System: Meditech

Required Skills:

• Strong emergency department clinical judgment and critical thinking, able to quickly assess, prioritize, and intervene in high-acuity, low-resource settings.
• Ability to work both independently and within a small, high-functioning team.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills, effectively collaborating with physicians, nurses, and unlicensed staff.

Preferred Skills:

• Bilingual (English and Spanish)
• Previous experience in a Free-Standing Emergency Department (FSED)
• Knowledge of Meditech
• Experience with Point of Care testing in an FSED

• Phlebotomy
• Emergency department nursing care across all triage levels
• Airway management / Intubation support
• Splinting / Immobilization
• Moderate sedation monitoring and recovery
• Wound care / Laceration repair assistance
• Cardiac monitoring, code response, and resuscitation support
