Description
Job Opportunity: Mammography Tech (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM; additional shifts 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM as needed
- Every other Saturday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (if scheduled for Saturday, a weekday off is provided)
- Floating between 4 nearby medical sites within 5 to 15 minutes of each other
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week
- Cross-training as Breast Sonographer preferred
Required Qualifications
- Valid Mammography Technologist license in Connecticut
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Mammography Technologist
- Mammography Technologist experience within the last year
- ARRT Mammography (ARRT M) certification
- ARRT Radiography (ARRT R) certification
Orientation & Start Details
- Orientation available every Monday
- Next available start date: ASAP (next orientation 7/13)
Facility & Work Environment
- Short Term Acute Care facility with Level I Trauma Center designation
- Total staffed beds: 1,567
- Uniform: Teal scrub tops and bottoms
- Electronic charting system: Epic
- Parking cost: $125/month
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid driver’s license or state ID matching legal name required on first day
- 7-year criminal background check within 12 months, including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, national sex offender, federal checks, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation required for internationally educated candidates
- Verification of highest education level required; official transcripts may be requested
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (clean-shaven required for N95 fit testing)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines required; boosters may be pending at start
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history; boosters may be pending
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of vaccine series, or declination accepted
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for certain specialties (not required)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1–3/31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not mandatory
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (verify with unit description)
Training & Competency Exams
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months, minimum 85% passing score
- Color blindness testing required for all candidates (effective 8/2/2024), minimum 80% passing score
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units (verify unit assignment)
- Facility-specific training modules and attestations required, including but not limited to:
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (exemptions apply)
- Stroke Education
- CLABSI Prevention
- Preventing Pressure Injury
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen
- Pyxis ES MedStation
- Baxter Pump Interoperability
- Patient Bedside Rounding
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
- Blood Administration Module (annual update required)
- New Employee Orientation
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for Mammography Tech)
- ED Handbook (if assigned to ED/ER)
- eCart Training Module (if applicable)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026)
Employment History & References
- 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days required
- Verification of last 7 years of employment mandatory (attestations not accepted)
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU assignments (not applicable here)
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
Additional Requirements
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for Mammography Tech and related units; updated if there is a 30-day gap between assignments
