PACU RN

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Days, 12-hour shifts, weekends as scheduled Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications

Preferred Qualifications

• PACU experience preferred
• ICU or ED experience also helpful

Unit Details

• Unit: PACU, 17 beds
• Phase 1 only. Travelers do not cover Phase 2.
• Occasional ventilator patients, plus BiPap and CPAP. RT sets up initial equipment and rounds as they would on the floor or unit.
• When no ICU beds are available, ICU patients recover in PACU. It is also common to hold ICU patients overnight.
• RNs perform EKG monitoring and watch patients on central monitor. RNs review EKGs and consult the physician for the official read.
• Team Leads do not take assignments but help cover lunches.
• No PCA (nurse aides) on this unit.

Scheduling and Call

• No self-scheduling. Designated day and night shifts. FTE staff work three 12-hour shifts. Some positions are blocked and others are variable.
• Weekend call is on a rotation, with each employee on call about once every 3 months. On-call hours are Saturday and Sunday, 7a to 7p. There is no night call coverage, but staff are present at night except on Sunday.
• Holiday call is on an assigned rotation, with no more than one major holiday per year.
• Call response time: 60 minutes.

Floating

• Regular PACU staff do not float to other units.
• Three shared pre- and post-op FP RN positions were recently filled and will not be required of traveling nurses.

Orientation and Logistics

• FTE orientation is 8 to 12 weeks. For travel RNs, this is modified to fit their needs.
• Scrubs are provided.
