Job Summary

Registered Nurse, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This position provides care for acute postoperative patients in a high-acuity recovery setting serving adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. The role supports recovery following a broad range of surgical procedures in a Level I Trauma Center environment.

Job Details

• Required Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of experience, including 2 years of Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience in a Level I Trauma Center; intensive care or critical care experience; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications; experience with electronic medical record charting using Epic; proficiency in dysrhythmia recognition and management, blood product administration, phlebotomy, starting and maintaining intravenous lines, intravenous vasopressors, intracranial pressure monitoring, care of ventilated patients, drains, mechanical ventilation, recovery from general anesthesia, transfusions, invasive monitoring, and preoperative assessment.
• Preferred Qualifications: Previous charge experience; experience with Cardiovascular Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
• Schedule: Day shift; 10-hour shifts; minimum 40 hours per week. No weekends, holidays, or call.
• Float: Float rotation may be required.
• Additional Information: The unit operates 24/7 and includes 38 patient bays with an average daily census of 7090 patients. Patient care includes postoperative recovery for neurosurgery, ear, nose and throat, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, gynecologic, urologic, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant procedures. The role also supports preoperative preparation for multiple surgical services. Open-heart surgeries and liver transplants are not recovered in this unit.
