Job Summary

Surgical Technician, Surgical Technician/Operating Room Technician. The Surgical Technician supports the surgical team by preparing instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures; maintaining sterile technique; and passing instruments during surgery. The role also includes surgical counts, specimen and medication handling, room turnover, and communication of safety concerns.

Job Details

• Schedule: Rotating 10-hour shifts, 40 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: Completion of a formal, structured program in Surgical Technology; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Preferred Qualifications: Certified Surgical Tech certification.
• Additional Information:
  • Anticipates surgeon and surgical team needs by preparing and passing instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Prepares the surgical field and verifies that required materials and equipment are available and functioning.
  • Maintains sterile technique and promptly communicates any breaks in technique or unsafe patient situations.
  • Performs surgical counts of sharps, small items, instruments, and sponges with the circulating nurse.
  • Handles specimens and medications according to established procedures.
  • Provides patient care appropriate to age, culture, and developmental needs.
  • Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, surgical procedures, sterilization methods, and operating room safety practices.
  • Supports case setup, intraoperative patient care, and room cleaning following procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with the surgical team and contributes to professional growth through continuing education and feedback.
