Job Summary

Step Down Unit, Nights. The registered nurse provides care for post-surgical thoracic and medical patients in an acute care setting. The role requires strong MedSurg Step Down experience, telemetry interpretation, and the ability to titrate medications according to prescribed parameters.

Job Details

• Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week; weekends and holidays as scheduled.
• Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of strong MedSurg Step Down experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Ability to titrate drips according to prescribed parameters
  • Ability to interpret and document patient cardiac rhythms
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; approved medical or religious exemptions may be considered
• Additional Information:
  • Provides care for post-surgical thoracic and medical patients
  • Typical assignment ratios are 1:3 for Step Down assignments and 1:4 for combination assignments
  • Requires management of titratable medications, including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Nitro, Esmolol, Heparin, and Lasix; vasopressors are not used
  • Nurses interpret and document patient rhythms with assessments every four hours or more frequently during medication titration
  • The unit includes BiPAP and tracheostomy patients; ventilators are not used
  • Three weekend shifts are required during each four-week schedule
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Royal blue scrubs are required
  • Orientation includes three unit-based shifts
