Job Summary

Surgical Technologist, Operating Room Open Heart supports surgical procedures by maintaining sterile technique, preparing patients and case carts, and providing required instrumentation and supplies. The role also supports specimen handling, instrument care, room turnover, and safe operating room practices.

Job Details

• Schedule: Day shift, 10-hour shifts, with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications:
  • Two years of Surgical Technologist experience.
  • One year of cardiovascular operating room scrubbing experience.
  • At least one year of cardiovascular experience as a Surgical Technologist.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential.
  • Graduation from a formal, accredited surgical technologist program; formal training through the United States military may substitute.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital.
• Additional Information:
  • Performs scrub duties and maintains sterile supplies and sterile technique.
  • Assists with nursing care and preparation of surgical patients.
  • Assembles, organizes, and completes case carts according to surgeon preference lists.
  • Provides instrumentation, sutures, and supplies during surgical procedures.
  • May assist the surgeon by passing instruments during procedures.
  • Counts sponges, needles, blades, and instruments according to established policy.
  • Handles specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments, contaminated materials, and sharps according to established policy and recommended standards of practice.
  • Assists with room turnover, including cleaning, replacing, and restocking supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains and cares for surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Regular attendance during scheduled work hours or shifts is required.
  • Night and weekend availability may be required for identified positions.
  • Cardio experience should be reflected in the professional profile.
  • May be placed on call during a regularly scheduled shift.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
