Job Summary

Surgical Technician/Operating Room Technician supporting a maternity centers obstetric surgical services. The position assists with cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, circumcisions, sterile procedures, patient safety, room turnover, and operating room cleaning. The role provides night-shift coverage within a multidisciplinary maternal care environment.

Job Details

• Schedule: Night shift, three 12-hour shifts from 6:30 to 7:00, totaling 36 hours per week; schedule includes two weekdays and one Saturday or Sunday each week, with potential weekend call and holiday coverage.
• Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association (AHA) certification.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential.
  • Additional scrub technician credential.
• Additional Information:
  • Supports surgical procedures by preparing tables, instruments, supplies, and sterile fields for cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, and circumcisions.
  • Maintains accurate counts of instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
  • Assists with patient care, safety rounds, vital signs, intake and output documentation, comfort measures, and delegated nursing procedures.
  • Performs Environmental Services (EVS) duties, including room turnover and operating room cleaning.
  • Maintains department and patient-room inventory, equipment, and surgical instruments according to established procedures.
  • Reports changes in patient condition or behavior to the Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Participates in unit meetings, continuing education, orientation of new staff, and quality improvement activities.
  • Performs clerical duties, assembles charts and packets, enters charges, and assists with birth certificate information and vital statistics.
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in patient-care departments.
  • Unit orientation and scrubs are provided.
