Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)

Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join a high-utilization, multi-service surgical department. The CST will support surgical procedures, maintain sterile technique, prepare instrumentation, and assist with centralized sterile processing functions.

The department supports both inpatient and outpatient cases and cross-trains staff across surgical and sterile processing functions.

Surgical Services

The unit provides services including:

• General Surgery
• Orthopedics, including hips and knees
• Podiatry
• Pain Management
• Pediatric Dentistry
• Centralized Sterile Processing

Job Duties

• Prepare and set up the operating room prior to surgical procedures.
• Organize, inspect, and maintain sterile instruments and equipment.
• Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique.
• Prepare, label, and properly handle surgical specimens.
• Assemble and maintain sterile instrument trays.
• Perform instrument cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization according to established protocols.
• Assist with central sterile processing tasks under the direction of a Certified Sterile Processing Professional (CSP).
• Follow infection prevention, safety, and sterile technique standards.
• Cross-train and provide support across surgical and sterile functions.
• Assist the surgical team as needed to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule & Call

• 8- or 10-hour shifts available
• Rotating call schedule
• Two weekends of call per six-week cycle
• Candidates must be comfortable participating in the rotating call schedule.

Education & Experience

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.
• Previous CST/OR experience preferred.
• Experience with multiple surgical specialties preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
• Current BLS certification required.

Job Requirements

• Formal education/degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited program.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and infection control.
• Comfortable assisting with sterile processing functions under appropriate supervision.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced surgical environment.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and attention to detail.
• Ability to cross-train and support multiple functions within the department.
